Sometimes, one candidate stands out from the crowd. Sue Chalifoux Zephir is that person. Voters who usually skip primaries should not miss out on this one. Your vote will make a difference. You will decide which candidate goes to the general election.
Sue, the endorsed candidate of the Clinton Democratic Town Committee to replace Jennifer Flanagan in the Senate, is the most accomplished and experienced with a record of winning campaigns. Sue is well tested, a strong candidate who, as an elected official, delivered much to her city. Credentials should matter.
Sue grew up in Leominster, but has Clinton roots. Her grandparents, Michael Kittridge and Mary (O’Toole) Kittridge, immigrated to Clinton from Louisburgh. Michael worked in the mills in Fitchburg, his brother, John, a union president, instilled in Sue the value of treating workers with fairness and dignity.
Sue has served on the Leominster City Council for eight years, and was elected president by her peers. She secured a long-awaited COLA for retirees and established the Environmental Land Trust protecting resource areas. The Sierra Club has endorsed her.
As a trustee of the library, she helped raise $1 million for renovation projects and is executive director of Ginny’s Helping Hand, serving the disadvantaged. As a member of the Education Foundation, Sue supports full funding for public schools. She holds an MBA from Simmons College and a degree from Assumption College.
Sue worked on the Senate Budget Committee staff for Sen. Bob Antonioni, a huge experience advantage. There will be no on-the-job training for Sue.
Sue is for job creation through modern manufacturing and more support for vocational schools. She supports quality affordable healthcare. She will continue the work she started with Jen Flanagan on the opioid addiction battle.
Sue supports raising the minimum wage to $15, the Fair Share Amendment that requires millionaires pay a 4 percent surcharge raising $1.9 million, which must be spent on public education and fixing roads and bridges. She supports the paid sick time law so employees can stay at home and not lose a day’s pay or make other workers sick. She supports safe-staffing by registered nurses in hospitals and nursing homes.
Sue will tirelessly represent us well in the Senate. Please vote for her on Nov. 7.
