To the Editor:
I support Sue Chalifoux Zephir for several reasons. But I would like to highlight one special distinction between Zephir and her opponent, Dean Tran.
In the forum on FLAP-TV before the 2017 special election, Tran claimed that his plans for expensive tax cuts would not require budget cuts or new revenue, but could be paid for by tax cuts.
This is not how tax cuts work. This is a common line used by those who wish to spend without limit. Dean Tran may be uninformed about the effects of tax cuts. Or, worse, he may understand the mechanics, but decided to mislead voters.
Despite his claims to reign in spending, he continues to advocate for spending without finding ways to pay.
Sue Chalifoux Zephir has plans to pay for her proposals and does not seek to mislead the voters with magic money. So I will be voting for Sue Chalifoux Zephir on Nov. 6 for common sense budget policy. Please join me and vote for Sue.
